
During the Mobile County Board of School Commissioners' May meeting, Board President Dr. Reginald Crenshaw presented Coach Ben Harris with a resolution to commend him for his induction into the National High School Football Hall of Fame. Coach Harris, who led Blount High School to four Class 5A state championships during his 19 years there, is the first high school coach in the state to receive this honor. He also has been named to the Alabama High School Athletic Association Hall of Fame, the Alabama State Athletics Hall of Fame, the Baldwin County Sports Hall of Fame, and the Mobile Sports Hall of Fame. The induction ceremony will be held on June 14 in Canton, Ohio. #LearningLeading

Teams from B.T. Washington and Alba middle schools and Barton Academy for Advanced World Studies participated in the inaugural MCPSS Brain Bowl competition this week at the Murphy High School auditorium. The students tested their knowledge on a variety of subjects, including geography, U.S. history, mathematics and art, with Barton Academy coming out on top. The students representing Washington were the school's first-ever academic team. The show will soon be featured on the mcpssTV YouTube channel. #LearningLeading

Mobile County Public Schools cut the ribbon on Williamson High School's new, on-campus football stadium last week, with many school and district officials, board members and community leaders in attendance. Congratulations to the Class of 2025! While our 12 high schools are holding their graduation ceremonies this month, elementary and middle schools across the county are welcoming their graduating alumni back to campus to walk the halls one last time. Graduation season will end this week with three more ceremonies: B.C. Rain and Davidson on Monday and Baker on Tuesday. #GrowingGREATNESS


Mobile County Public Schools recognized and celebrated 90 Teachers of the Year at the annual Teacher of the Year Luncheon on recently at the Renaissance Riverview Plaza Hotel. Included were countywide Teachers of the Year Krissy Brown of Gilliard Elementary, Justine Wilson of Grand Bay Middle and Roseann Byrd of Citronelle High School. The Causey Middle School archery team took first place in Centershot 3D and first place in Centershot Bullseye at the U.S. Eastern National Tournament recently! Several MCPSS archers also turned in top 10 individual performances, including Grand Bay's Gunnar Couch, Castlen's Sophie Bush, Dawes Intermediate's Phillip Hall, and Causey's Kaiden Richardson.

McDavid-Jones Elementary's National Elementary Honor Society enjoyed a fun-filled academic field trip recently to Colonial Forte Conde, History Museum of Mobile, and the Phoenix Fire Museum. What a wonderful way to learn about Mobile history!


Whitley Elementary's second-grade students recently used their math and reading skills to place a "Starbucks" order and purchase it. They first filled out their order form, which gave them the option to add toppings like marshmallows, whipped cream and/or a candy cane to their "latte." They then paid for their order and waited in line to pick it up. What a fun way to learn!
