The Mobile County Board of School Commissioners recently honored the Davidson Hi-Q team for their second-place finish in the Hi-Q National Contest. Two of the outstanding students honored last week at the Learning Leading Awards were brothers! Samuel Hayes is the 2026 Learning Leading Award winner for Citronelle High and his younger brother Caleb Hayes is this year's honoree for Lott Middle School. Samuel is a member of Citronelle's JROTC unit and Academic Team, and is a SkillsUSA competitor. Caleb is a member of Lott's advanced band and has helped lead his National History Day team to back-to-back wins. MCPSS had six middle schools (Barton, Calloway-Smith, Causey, Chastang-Fournier, Clark-Shaw and Hankins) and five high schools (Alma Bryant, Davidson, Mary G. Montgomery, Theodore and B.C. Rain) participate in the Wildcat Regional STEM Day hosted by Bishop State Community College on Friday. Clark-Shaw and Theodore won the Banner competition, Hankins and Mary G. Montgomery took first place in the Mousetrap Car category, Causey and Theodore won in the Egg Drop, and Calloway-Smith and Alma Bryant took top honors for their Water Bottle Rockets. Some students at Callahan School for the Deaf & Blind spent Earth Day enjoying nature and learning how they can take care of the planet. Congratulations to Davidson High School's Owen Farmer, who has earned a corporate-sponsored National Merit Scholarship. Farmer, who plans to study aerospace engineering at Mississippi State, was awarded a scholarship sponsored by Ingalls Shipbuilding Division . Congratulations to the Scholars Bowl teams from Barton Academy for Advanced World Studies and Causey Middle School, which finished first and second, respectively, in the South Alabama Academic Competition Association Super Tournament held Monday at MCPSS Central Office. Barton defeated Causey in the final match to earn the title of Super Tournament champion, with both teams taking home hardware from the tournament and season. Causey's Evan McFarland was the second-place individual scorer through the season and Barton Academy's Aiva Agato was fourth.
