Murphy JAG Specialist Sylvester Jones accepted the honor at the National JAG Conference held recently in Louisville. Faculty and staff at Elizabeth Fonde Elementary kicked off the 2025-26 school year this week by Brewing Greatness! They held energizing conversations centered around analyzing data, Learning Intentions and Success Criteria, setting the stage for a purposeful and impactful year of teaching and learning. Four teachers from Old Shell Road School of Creative & Performing Arts, Libby Walker, Lynissa Newsome, Alicia Luttrell, and Jessica Gonzales, attended the National Arts Integration and STEAM Conference recently in Baltimore, Maryland. Educators from around the state are in Mobile this week for the Alabama State Department of Education's annual Mega Conference at the Mobile Convention Center. The conference opened Monday with a welcome from MCPSS Superintendent Chresal D. Threadgill and addresses from State Superintendent of Education Dr. Eric Mackey and author John C. Maxwell, who has written many books on leadership. #LearningLeading


Congratulations to Class of 2025 Davidson High graduate Brian Carr, who has been awarded a college-sponsored National Merit Scholarship from the University of Alabama in Huntsville, where he plans to study aerospace engineering. Carr is one of five Davidson graduates to earn a National Merit Scholarship this year, joining Connor Dolbeare, Oscar Jones, Matthew Ngo, and Igor DeBoi.


Vigor High counselor Brittnay Powe-Inge recently traveled to Columbus, Ohio, to visit ROX (Ruling Our eXperiences), an organization dedicated to helping girls develop confidence, leadership skills, and healthy coping mechanisms. Mrs. Powe-Inge helped Vigor become the first school in Mobile County to adopt the program. She was awarded a Dr. Patty Fellowship (which honors the legacy of Dr. Patricia Cunningham, who helped launch ROX) and participated with other fellows from around the country in two impactful days of personal and professional development. #LearningLeading


Davidson High culinary teacher Rachel Baxter and her students represented MCPSS well at the FCCLA National Leadership Convention. The Mary G. Montgomery Vikettes Dance Team had an amazing week at the UDA Dance Camp in Destin. The Vikettes brought home a Superior Team Performance; Fall Out, 110% and Pin It Forward awards; five All-Americans; six Gold Ribbons; 12 Blue Ribbons; four Spirit Sticks; and a nationals bid! The Environmental Studies Center, 6101 Girby Road, is open this summer! Families are invited to explore the trails and exhibits to view native plants and wildlife. This summer, Aryn Williams of Baker High is gaining valuable real-world experience through the MCPSS Summer Internship Program, working with the Student Services Department at Central Office. From managing communications to working with computer systems and filing, Aryn is building essential workplace skills that will carry her toward future success. She is one of 190 MCPSS students interning this summer with more than 80 local businesses, organizations and governmental entities as part of the program. #LearningLeading


What are you doing this summer? Murphy High senior Naima Dortch is in Sodwana Bay, South Africa, participating in the Youth International Cultural Awareness Program as part of Youth Diving With a Purpose. This group of students is working with NEWF, an organization that advocates for the protection of Africa's natural history and splendor through visual storytelling. Dortch, a member of Murphy's UA Early College, earned her rescue diver certification last month in Pelham before leaving for South Africa. #LearningLeading


The Mobile Arts Council has continued the Amp Up Arts program for a third summer at Chastang-Fournier K-8, bringing artists Zak Todd and Brian Tan to lead students in mural projects. The students added murals to the cafeteria, which was a continuation of last summer's art project, and painted a mural in the school’s band room. #LearningLeading


MCPSS students like these rising freshmen at Clark-Shaw Magnet got to explore careers in health care last month at the Health Science Exploratorium at Bishop State Community College. Students earned their First Aid Certification and received swag bags full of tools to help them succeed as they study the health science field. #LearningLeading


Theodore High School's Riley Ivey and Kimberly Chan and the rest of the Azalea Trail Maids, including many other MCPSS students, appeared in the Let Freedom Ring Parade in Marietta, Georgia, over the July 4th holiday. #LearningLeading
