Did you know a former Mobile County Public Schools student was selected in the 2025 NBA draft last week? Northwestern University's Brooks Barnhizer, who attended Grand Bay Middle and Alma Bryant High School, was selected in the second round by the Oklahoma City Thunder. Maegan Gayle of Eichold-Mertz Magnet School of Math, Science & Technology and Anna McMillen of Dixon Elementary have been in Iceland this month, participating in the Science of Iceland program thanks to a Fund for Teachers grant. They have explored glaciers and geysers, descended into dormant volcanoes, snorkeled between tectonic plates, visited the largest puffin colony in the world and walked through a greenhouse that uses geothermal energy to grow vegetables in the harsh winters. They'll use their experiences to enhance STEM and environmental instruction in their classrooms. CTE Summer Camps at Faulkner and Bryant Career Technical Centers wrapped up last week with informative site visits. Faulkner campers visited Bishop State Community College and toured the Advanced Manufacturing Building (exploring Welding, Precision Machining, Process & Maintenance Technology and more) and the Health Science Department. Campers at Bryant visited Core Industries and learned about careers in logistics, heavy lift operations, industrial maintenance, and more. #LearningLeading
