Yesterday was the 67th day of school and Griggs Elementary couldn't let the day go by without 6-7 fun activities! Second-graders played a variety of math games incorporating the numbers 6 and 7. They raced to 67 using the counting on strategy. They collected data through surveying staff at the school and used the data to create a yes/no chart and a Venn Diagram. They used dice to count how many times they could roll the numbers six and seven within seven minutes, recording the data using tally marks and finished by counting their groups by 5. In ELA, the students dictated a list of 6-7 words with 6-7 letters. They also syllabicated 6-7 words using various syllable types. They wrote about what they would do with $67 and learned about the year 1967! #LearningLeading #PerseverancePropelsProgress

Williamson High had a spirited send-off for its football team, which is one of five MCPSS teams traveling upstate for second-round AHSAA playoff games tonight. The Lions visit Elmore County, Vigor plays at Northside, Theodore goes to Benjamin Russell, Baker visits Opelika and Mary G. Montgomery's Gabriella Perkins, who takes dual enrollment courses through Bishop State Community College and recently earned the 1 millionth credential issued by the National Coalition of Certification Centers! Gabriella is studying Aviation Manufacturing at Faulkner Career Technical Center, gaining hands-on training and industry credentials that are shaping her future in advanced manufacturing. Ms. Simpson’s Dual Enrollment Biology class at B.C. Rain High School visited the Environmental Studies Center last week for some hands-on field work, searching for lichens on trees and testing local water sources for microplastics. Before breaking from classes to observe Veterans Day, members of the INTERACT club at Barton Academy for Advanced World Studies spent Monday afternoon assembling the school's field of flags after raising nearly $1000 toward Disabled American Veterans field of flags project. Students in different disciplines often use what they've learned to collaborate on projects in MCPSS career tech programs. Bryant Career Technical Center science students researched bluebird habitats and nesting box specifications. Students in its manufacturing class built bluebird houses and used a CNC plasma cutter to create guards to keep squirrels out.
