Congratulations to the Causey Middle School archery team and the other MCPSS archers who competed in the NASP World Championship at Daytona Beach, Florida! Causey placed third among all middle schools in 3D and ninth in Bullseye, while Makynzie Thompson was the No. 1 middle school girl in Bullseye. Thompson was also eighth in 3D, while teammates Braxton Boone (Bullseye) and Gavin Spann (3D) turned in top-10 finishes in middle school boys. Individual archers from Baker High School, Dodge and Wilmer elementary schools, and Dawes Intermediate. Baker's Kaiden Richardson placed 10th in Bullseye and 12th in 3D for high school boys, while Wilmer's Isaias Diaz-Maldonado was 10th in elementary boys for 3D. Congratulations to the Davidson High cheerleaders, who racked up several awards at the recent UCA Camp. The varsity squad won first place in their division for Sideline & Cheer, Camp Routine and Game Day Cheer, while the JV also took first place in its division for Sideline & Cheer and Camp Routine. Ten Davidson cheerleaders were named All-American and the squad earned several other awards and ribbons. #LearningLeading

Congratulations to Noah Hix, a rising junior at Davidson High School, who had the opportunity to attend Alabama Governor’s School last month at Samford University. Murphy High science teacher Benjamin Peralta got a thrill last month, as the Atlanta Braves recognized him and other educators on the field at Truist Park. Peralta was honored as part of the Braves' Most Valuable Teachers program, which provides funds for classroom projects. Peralta's project involved creating a hurricane model to show students how the storms form and how to map their track. #LearningLeading

Mia Kastor, as rising IB senior at Murphy High School, was in Washington, D.C., last week for the Congressional Seminar, an interactive civics-focused workshop, as one of two Alabama winners of the National Society of the Colonial Dames of America annual essay contest. She received full tuition and support for travel, university campus housing and meals, access to world-class museums, meetings with members of Congress like Rep. Shomari Figures, and more. For her winning essay, she was asked to “describe the principles in the Declaration of Independence you believe are most important in lifting the human condition and explain how they have helped this country meet evolving challenges over our 249 years.” #LearningLeading

This summer, Alma Bryant students Haden Purser and Rosalie Miller had an opportunity to attend Alabama HOBY (Hugh O'Brian Youth Leadership) at Troy University.
This prestigious leadership program brings together outstanding sophomores from across the state to develop leadership skills, build relationships, and inspire students to make a difference in their schools and communities. During their time at HOBY, they wrote letters of encouragement to breast cancer patients through Bags of Hope, collected non-perishable food items for the Heart of Alabama Food Bank and helped create dog toys for the Troy Animal Rescue Project. #LearningLeading

The Causey Middle School dance team showed up strong at the NDA Camp earlier this month, taking first place in Team Routine and second in Team Leader Routine, earning the Superior Showmanship and St. Jude Spirit Stick awards, and earning a bid to Nationals! Congratulations to the Causey Middle School cheerleaders, who brought a lot of hardware back from the UCA Bama Cheer Camp II in Tuscaloosa last weekend! Causey claimed first place in the Medium Junior High Cheer and Camp Routine categories, placed in two other categories, earned multiple Spirit Sticks and Superior Ribbons, and had eight cheerleaders named All-Americans. #LearningLeading

Congratulations to former Baker High School standout Labaron Philon, who was drafted by the Philadelphia 76ers with the 22nd pick in the 2026 NBA draft on Tuesday. Philon was named 2023 Mr. Basketball and Gatorade Player of the Year in Alabama while playing for the Hornets. He went on to play two seasons at Alabama, helping the Tide reach the Elite Eight in 2025 and the Sweet 16 this year. #LearningLeading
