Four students from Barton Academy for Advanced World Studies were selected as winners in this year's State Superintendent Visual Art Exhibit Contest. Their artwork was judged against hundreds of works submitted from across the state, and they will be recognized at a special awards ceremony in Montgomery later this spring. Marley Conner and Zoe Parido took first place in the Grades 9-10 and 7-8 categories, respectively, for their charcoal drawings. Alise Zuniga-Sanchez won first place in Grades 5-6 for digital photography. And Ashton Almanza received honorable mention in grades 7-8 for digital photography. MCPSS students swept the top three places in the 99th Annual Mobile County Spelling Bee, held Friday at Mary G. Montgomery High and presented by the 68 Ventures Bowl and Mobile County Public Schools. Carson Floyd of Grand Bay Middle took first place, Baileigh Mosley Stokes of Council Traditional was second, and Aaryan Sharma of Denton Magnet School of Technology was third. Did you know there was an Alma Bryant alumnae singing on stage at the Grammy Awards last weekend? Lexi Jayy is a 2012 Alma Bryant grad who is building a career in the music business.
