Students from Bryant Career Technical Center participating in the Shipbuilding Academy had an opportunity this week to tour Birdon in Bayou La Batre. Birdon was awarded a $1.187 billion contract in 2022 to design and build 27 new Waterways Commerce Cutter vessels for the U.S. Coast Guard. To meet this growing demand, the company has launched its inaugural apprenticeship cohort. The first class of apprentices includes individuals training in shipfitting, where they will receive a blend of classroom instruction, hands-on training, and on-the-job experience at Birdon’s Bayou La Batre shipyard. #LearningLeading #PerseverancePropelsProgress

Yesterday was the 67th day of school and Griggs Elementary couldn't let the day go by without 6-7 fun activities! Second-graders played a variety of math games incorporating the numbers 6 and 7. They raced to 67 using the counting on strategy. They collected data through surveying staff at the school and used the data to create a yes/no chart and a Venn Diagram. They used dice to count how many times they could roll the numbers six and seven within seven minutes, recording the data using tally marks and finished by counting their groups by 5. In ELA, the students dictated a list of 6-7 words with 6-7 letters. They also syllabicated 6-7 words using various syllable types. They wrote about what they would do with $67 and learned about the year 1967! #LearningLeading #PerseverancePropelsProgress

Bryant Career Technical Center science students researched bluebird habitats and nesting box specifications. Students in its manufacturing class built bluebird houses and used a CNC plasma cutter to create guards to keep squirrels out. This hands-on collaboration is a perfect example of Project-Based Learning coming to life — combining technical skills, scientific research, and teamwork for a real-world environmental project! #LearningLeading #PerseverancePropelsProgress
