LeFlore is state bound! The Rattlers defeated Charles Henderson 53-47 on Tuesday to win the 5A boys South Regional tournament and earn a berth in the AHSAA state tournament next week in Birmingham. Three other MCPSS teams have a chance to join them, competing in regional final games today in Montgomery:

Collins-Rhodes Elementary, Calcedeaver Elementary and North Mobile County K-8 recently received $10,000 grants from SSAB Alabama! Located in Axis, the steel mill provides these grants, generated from its scrap tire recycling program, annually to schools in north Mobile County. Four students from Barton Academy for Advanced World Studies were selected as winners in this year's State Superintendent Visual Art Exhibit Contest. Their artwork was judged against hundreds of works submitted from across the state, and they will be recognized at a special awards ceremony in Montgomery later this spring. Marley Conner and Zoe Parido took first place in the Grades 9-10 and 7-8 categories, respectively, for their charcoal drawings. Alise Zuniga-Sanchez won first place in Grades 5-6 for digital photography. And Ashton Almanza received honorable mention in grades 7-8 for digital photography.
