Murphy High senior Naima Dortch is in Sodwana Bay, South Africa, participating in the Youth International Cultural Awareness Program as part of Youth Diving With a Purpose. This group of students is working with NEWF, an organization that advocates for the protection of Africa's natural history and splendor through visual storytelling. Dortch, a member of Murphy's UA Early College, earned her rescue diver certification last month in Pelham before leaving for South Africa. #LearningLeading
The Mobile Arts Council has continued the Amp Up Arts program for a third summer at Chastang-Fournier K-8, bringing artists Zak Todd and Brian Tan to lead students in mural projects. The students added murals to the cafeteria, which was a continuation of last summer's art project, and painted a mural in the school’s band room. #LearningLeading
MCPSS students like these rising freshmen at Clark-Shaw Magnet got to explore careers in health care last month at the Health Science Exploratorium at Bishop State Community College. Sumedh Patil and Owen Farmer recently represented Davidson High School at the 2025 Alabama Boys State, held at the University of Alabama. Hosted annually, Alabama Boys State brings together rising seniors from high schools across the state for a week-long immersive experience in government, leadership, and public service. Did you know a former Mobile County Public Schools student was selected in the 2025 NBA draft last week? Northwestern University's Brooks Barnhizer, who attended Grand Bay Middle and Alma Bryant High School, was selected in the second round by the Oklahoma City Thunder.
