Alphabet arcs are a great way for kindergarteners to build their alphabet knowledge. The kindergarteners at George Hall Elementary are using them to recognize letters in order, strengthen letter-sound connections, and build confidence as early readers. #PeserverancePropelsProgress #LearningLeading

Mobile County Public Schools was named United Way of Southwest Alabama's Outstanding Community Partner for 2025 at the UWSWA annual meeting held October 1.
MCPSS employees and students were recognized for having donated more than $2,000,000 to United Way over the past 30 years, including more than $200,000 during the 2024-25 campaign.
Dr. Monica Motley, United Way chairperson for MCPSS, accepted the award. "This award is a testament to the kindness and generosity of our employees and students, and their strong commitment to helping our neighbors in need. Supporting United Way is important because all contributions stay in our local community. In fact, many of our own students and families receive support from United Way partner agencies," Dr. Motley said.
Several employees who are active United Way campaign volunteers also attended the annual meeting, which featured guest speaker Tyrone Prothro, a standout football player at the University of Alabama, and now a high school football coach in north Alabama. "Tyrone's message was about how important it is to build community support through organizations like United Way. As a child and teen, Tyrone's family experienced a lot of hardship, including two house fires. Through the support of his community, including his school family, he was able to overcome challenges to succeed on the football field, graduate from college, and now positively influence the students he works with at Jasper High," said Chuck Harben, Education Co-Chair for this year's UWSWA campaign.
MCPSS will kick off its 2025-26 United Way campaign in mid-January with a campaign coordinators meeting. Employees will receive their donation cards around January 20.

If you go to Bellingrath Gardens in the next few weeks, check out the scarecrow and decorations designed by students from Bryant Career Technical Center! Bryant's FFA chose a Plants Vs. Zombies theme and its president, Chloe Stanley, designed a digital image. Bryant Manufacturing students cut the design using its CNC machine. After students painted it and made the little character pumpkins, Bryant's ag construction class helped install it at Bellingrath. #PerseverancePropelsProgress
