Ms. Germany's fourth-graders at St. Elmo Elementary built Rube Goldberg machines! They were challenged to use at least five materials and collaborate on an idea. They presented their machines last Friday, explaining the sequence of events and discussing the types of energy utilized. Mobile County Training School officially opened the MCTS History Museum this week. As part of an ongoing partnership, Evonik Corporation welcomed students from Hollinger's Island Elementary to its facility last week to learn all about pollinators. Instructors from the Environmental Studies Center shared lessons about honeybees, the role they play in our environment and their importance to agriculture and food production. The Baker High School Culinary Team had a great weekend volunteering and competing at Mason Hills Farm! Not only did their students showcase their skills in the VIP tent, but they also placed third in the Hersel Burger Competition and earned a $500 gift certificate. William Clark, manufacturing instructor at Bryant Career Technical Center, was honored last weekend by having his name painted on the RFK Racing No. 6 Build Submarines Ford driven by Brad Keselowski at Talladega Superspeedway. Clark, who trains and mentors students who are interested in maritime careers as well as other manufacturing jobs, was honored as part of the Build Giants initiative promoting maritime careers building U.S. Navy ships in Alabama. Congratulations to Mary G. Montgomery junior Blakely Stringer, the WKRG News 5 Scholar-Athlete of the Week! Stringer plays volleyball at MGM and has been a part of the South Alabama Volleyball Club for three years. She has a 4.3 GPA and takes dual enrollment classes through Bishop State Community College and the University of South Alabama. She is a member of the Montgomery Maniacs, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, and Mu Alpha, and won the 2024-25 Varsity Viking Award.
