Teachers and administrators in the Theodore High feeder pattern got some inspiration for the new school year from principal, motivational speaker, and unofficial education comedian-in-chief Gerry Brooks during their Back-to-School Bash. Known for his hilarious takes on teacher life, Brooks also shared heartfelt reminders about the impact educators make every day. “It’s all about relationships,” he reminded them. A total of 292 Mobile County Public Schools students were named AP Scholars after the 2024-25 school year! This means they earned a score of 3 or higher on at least three Advanced Placement exams, proving their mastery of rigorous, college-level courses and earning college credit. Forty-nine of those students were also named AP Scholars with Honor for earning a score of 3 or higher on at least four AP exams, and 38 were also named AP Scholars with Distinction for earning a 3 or higher on at least five AP exams. Baker High School, the only southwest Alabama school offering the prestigious AP Capstone Program, led the system with 133 AP Scholars, while Davidson was second with 125. Alma Bryant, Citronelle, LeFlore Magnet and Murphy high schools also had AP Scholars. Congratulations to all! #LearningLeading

About 20 MCPSS JROTC cadets traveled to Starkville, Mississippi this month to participate in the Mississippi State University LeaderSTATE STEM Camp. The cadets learned about opportunities available at colleges and universities like MSU, and applied STEM principles in an aerospace engineering challenge. #LearningLeading
While football and volleyball teams are preparing for the fall season and marching bands are polishing up their routines, they aren't the only groups of students working to prepare for the new school year. Broadcast teams like the Eagle Eye Newscasters at Semmes Elementary are working on the skills they'll need to produce their daily morning announcements. Liam Norris, who will be an eighth-grader at Phillips Preparatory School this year, was honored this summer to receive the Space Academy for Leading Students in Alabama (SALSA) scholarship, a prestigious award funded by the Alabama Legislature. As one of only two students selected from each legislative district, Liam represented our area at a special session of Space Academy at the U.S. Space & Rocket Center in Huntsville. During the June session, he participated in hands-on STEM activities, astronaut training simulations, and immersive team missions designed to inspire Alabama’s future leaders in science and technology. #LearningLeading

Several MCPSS students are getting valuable workplace experience at SSAB this summer. Katherine Collins, Ethan Byrd, Bryson Hurd and Javon Adali of Citronelle High; Lakinsty Dickerson and Aaron Jackson of Williamson; and Kira Millsap of Vigor are working with the IT/OT department, learning how Information and Operational Technology play a vital role within the steel-making process and collaborating with other departments, including Water Treatment, Automation, Engineering, Server, and Cybersecurity. In addition, recent Citronelle graduate Drake Lloyd (not pictured) has worked with the IT Department, focusing on robotic process automation-related projects and tasks. #LearningLeading
