Students and staff honored the former Kate Shepard student, who battled neuroblastoma, by wearing gold shirts and accessories, and donating to receive a Childhood Cancer Awareness wristband in support of the cause. Zombies theme and its president, Chloe Stanley, designed a digital image. Bryant Manufacturing students cut the design using its CNC machine. As part of a study of energy and energy transfer, fourth-graders in Mrs. Shapiro’s class at Collier Elementary applied the engineering design process to build their own roller coasters. Congratulations to Davidson High senior Luisa Williams, who was named the WKRG News 5 Scholar-Athlete of the Week! All MCPSS seniors are asked to participate in the Alabama Direct Admission Initiative. This program is designed to afford high school seniors in Alabama an opportunity to receive guaranteed college admission offers to participating institutions by completing their student profile and submitting their transcript, eliminating the need for traditional applications, essays and fees. There are no application fees and no rejections; students will only receive a letter of acceptance. This is a stress-free process that aims to remove barriers to higher education, giving students the confidence to know that they are capable and can attend college. If seniors complete their profile by September 23, they will receive acceptance letters beginning October 6. Seniors should see their counselor for more information.
