Mobile County Public Schools won the top award from the Southern Public Relations Federation for its redesign of mcpss.com and all 90 school websites. MCPSS outscored 140 communication campaigns in Alabama, Florida, Louisiana and Mississippi to receive “Best in Show.”
The redesign was a major effort led by the Office of Communication and Division of Information Technology and made possible through the hard work of webmasters, principals, and assistant principals at each school.
Launched in 2025, the new websites were designed to comply with new ADA accessibility rules, to be more user-friendly, and to proudly display each school’s logo and colors. The websites are integrated with a new mobile app, social media, and an alert system that allows school leaders to easily send messages and texts to parents.
“This was truly a team effort,” said MCPSS Director of Communication Rena Philips. “Our goal was to improve communication with parents by making it easier for them to find information, stay informed and feel more connected to their children's schools. We've received positive feedback from parents and school leaders, and we're proud that this work is making a difference. This recognition reflects months of hard work and collaboration by so many people across our district and in all 90 schools.”
In addition, Mobile County Public Schools was recognized with an Award of Excellence for the MCPSS-U program, through which school employees are invited to meet with district leaders to learn about how MCPSS’s various departments operate.
