Mobile County Public Schools continued its strong performance on the State Report Card, once again earning a B and raising its score back to the district-level best of 83, the Alabama Department of Education announced Thursday.
That’s an increase of 2 points from last year.
“This accomplishment could not have been achieved without every student, teacher, administrator and school and district support staff member doing their part to the very best of their ability,” said MCPSS Superintendent Chresal D. Threadgill.
Fifty-nine MCPSS schools improved their individual Report Card scores by at least one point. Eighteen schools earned A’s, and MCPSS had the region’s only three schools to score a perfect 100 – Barton Academy for Advanced World Studies, Council Traditional School, and Eichold-Mertz School of Math, Science and Technology. Dauphin Island Elementary and Old Shell Road School of Creative and Performing Arts both scored a 99. Phillips Preparatory scored a 97, and Clark-Shaw School of Math, Science and Technology and Denton Magnet School of Technology both scored a 96.
Other schools earning A’s include: J.E. Turner Elementary, Dawes Intermediate, Tanner Williams Elementary, Castlen Elementary, Collier Elementary, Hutchens Elementary, O’Rourke Elementary, Taylor-White Elementary, St. Elmo Elementary and Semmes Elementary.
MCPSS outperformed other large, urban districts in Alabama, and the area’s charter schools.
Each year, the Alabama Department of Education releases report cards for its schools and districts. The grades are based on standardized reading and math test scores, attendance and academic growth. High schools are also evaluated on their four-year high school graduation rate and college and career readiness.
Threadgill commended all of #TeamMCPSS for the increased scores while challenging them to keep the momentum going. “I encourage each of you to keep persevering, keep propelling forward, and keep monitoring progress in your schools as we work together to become an A district,” he wrote in an email to all principals. “I have 100 percent confidence that we will get there.”
