Drama students from seven MCPSS high schools earned honors in the regional competition of the Walter S. Trumbauer High School Festival, and have qualified to advance to the state competition next month.
This is one of the school system’s largest groups of qualifiers in the regional competition, with students earning a total of 101 awards. Here are the numbers of qualifying events each school earned in the regional round, which was held in the Lois Jean Delaney Auditorium at Murphy High School:

“This wonderful achievement is a direct reflection of the hard work put in by our theater teachers and students every day in the classroom, but theater education isn’t just about the stage; it’s about helping students find their voice, their confidence, and their community,” said Dr. Susan Henderson, Academic Supervisor of Fine Arts at MCPSS. “Through theater, our students learn to collaborate, communicate, think creatively, and build confidence. These are the very skills that strengthen our classrooms, our communities, and help prepare students for their future careers.”
The state finals of the Trumbauer High School Festival will be held December 5-6 at the University of Alabama-Birmingham.
