Two members of the Mobile County Board of School Commissioners were officially sworn in during late November.

Lonnie Parsons, who served on the board from 2000-2006, was elected to represent District 1, which includes north and west Mobile County. And board member Don Stringfellow was re-elected for a third term to represent District 2, which includes Mobile from Spring Hill to Tillman’s Corner, and then south to Dauphin Island. Parsons and Stringfellow will serve six-year terms.

Parsons retired as deputy sheriff of the Mobile County Sheriff’s Office, capping a 35-year career in law enforcement. Stringfellow is a retired educator with MCPSS, working 34 years as a teacher, principal and central office administrator.

“I would like to provide our children with the best education possible,” Parsons said.

Both are products of Mobile County Public Schools. Parsons graduated from C.F. Vigor in 1974, and Stringfellow from John S. Shaw High School in 1967.

“I want to ensure that our schools remain places where every student’s potential is recognized, where there is collaboration, and where the voices of all of our teachers, parents, students and staff guide us,” Stringfellow said.
