We are excited to share two important upcoming events for our students. The 7th and 8th Grade Prom will be held on Friday, May 1, 2026, from 6:00–9:00 PM in the school gymnasium. The cost is $35 per student, which includes admission, decorations, refreshments, and entertainment. All payments are due by Friday, April 24, 2026. Students must follow the semi-formal/formal dress code and maintain appropriate behavior leading up to the event. Students with significant disciplinary issues may not be allowed to attend, as prom is a privilege.

We are also proud to announce the 8th Grade Rites of Passage Crossing Over Ceremony, which will take place on Thursday, May 21, 2026, at 8:30 AM. This ceremony celebrates our students as they transition from middle school to high school. To participate, students must pass all classes and demonstrate positive behavior during the 3rd and 4th quarters. Students who do not meet the academic or behavior expectations will not be eligible to participate and may be required to attend summer school to meet promotion requirements. Students must also follow the required ceremony attire: Girls – black dress (no strapless or spaghetti straps), flat black shoes, and pearl jewelry; Boys – black slacks, white button-down shirt, tie or bow tie, and black dress shoes.

Please continue to monitor your child’s academic progress and behavior by communicating regularly with their teachers. Thank you for your continued support as we work together to ensure our students finish the year successfully.

Start and End Times for School Day
ACAP testing will resume this week, and all students will be testing. It is very important that students arrive at school each day on time, well-rested, and ready to do their best. Testing begins promptly each morning, and we want all students present and prepared so they can be successful.

We will also have an ACAP Pep Rally for students to help encourage and motivate them to do their best on the test. We are proud of the hard work our students have put in, and we want them to feel confident and prepared.

This is also a reminder that tomorrow is an out-of-uniform day. However, all students must still follow the school’s dress code. If you are in doubt about an outfit, please do not wear it. Skirts must be knee length. Students may not wear shorts, tights, leggings, ripped or torn clothing, slips, Crocs, bear fuzzy boots or hooded jackets/clothing. All clothing must be appropriate for a school setting.

Report cards will go home tomorrow, so please be sure to ask your child for their report card and review it with them.

Thank you for your continued support as we work together to ensure a successful testing week for our students.

ACAP Testing
As we spring forward this weekend, we are also entering the final week of the 3rd quarter. Please take a moment to review your child’s grades and ensure that they are on track to finish the quarter strong. This is an important time for students to complete assignments, remain focused, and demonstrate their best effort as we close out the grading period.

Students will have a virtual learning day on Friday, March 13, and students will be out of school on Monday, March 16, for a Teacher Work Day. Students will return to school on Tuesday, March 17, as we begin the final quarter of the school year. We encourage all students to remain focused and prepared as we enter the last quarter.

As we move forward, we also ask for your continued support in reinforcing positive behavior, respect for staff and peers, and adherence to school expectations. Maintaining a safe and productive learning environment allows all students to focus on learning and academic success.

Please ensure that you visit our school website regularly to stay up to date with important announcements, events, and school information. We also encourage you to communicate with your child’s teachers to ensure your child is on track academically and demonstrating positive behavior at school.

Mrs. Jones

We are pleased to share that we have officially entered a new month and are now in the middle of the third quarter. This is an important time in the school year, as instructional expectations increase and grades earned during this period have a significant impact on final academic outcomes. We strongly encourage you to regularly review your child’s grades and maintain open communication with their teachers. Consistent monitoring and communication allow concerns to be addressed early and ensure students receive the support they need to remain successful.

We would like to extend a special thank you to the Senior Bowl players who recently visited Calloway-Smith Middle School. Our students benefited greatly from the opportunity to hear firsthand what it takes to be successful both academically and athletically. The message shared emphasized the importance of discipline, perseverance, and maintaining a strong commitment to education while pursuing athletic goals. We are also grateful to the Fuse Project for making this meaningful experience possible for our students.

We would also like to extend our congratulations to the Calloway-Smith Middle School Boys Basketball Team for winning the Area Championship. This accomplishment reflects their hard work, dedication, and teamwork. A special thank you to Coach Arrington for his leadership, commitment, and continued support of our students both on and off the court.

Please review the following important reminders and upcoming dates:

Homework Support at Home
Homework is more than simply completing an assignment. It is essential that students understand the content and skills being practiced. We encourage you to ask your child questions about their homework and have them explain what they worked on. If a student is unable to discuss the assignment, it may indicate that they do not fully understand the material. In these cases, using resources such as YouTube or Google to reinforce the skill can be very helpful, as these platforms provide additional explanations and examples that support student understanding.

Students can also access Clever at home, which offers a variety of high-quality educational tools to support instruction. Programs such as iXL are especially beneficial, as they provide targeted practice aligned to academic standards and help students strengthen specific skill gaps.

Tutoring
Tutoring is offered every Tuesday and Wednesday for registered students from 2:30 p.m. until 4:30 p.m. This additional support is designed to help students improve academically and build confidence in their learning.

Afterschool Detention
Beginning Wednesday, we will hold afterschool detention for students who are exhibiting behaviors that interfere with the learning environment or do not meet school expectations. Afterschool detention is mandatory for students who receive a detention slip and will be held from 2:30 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. Please ensure arrangements are made for your child to be picked up by 4:00 p.m. if they are assigned afterschool detention.

Important Dates to Remember

Progress Reports go home: Monday, February 9

8th Grade Pictures: February 13 ($25 per student)

ACCESS Testing: February 24–25

ACAP Alternate Testing: March 2–20
