Mobile County school board seeking to fill District 4 seat

MOBILE, Alabama -- The Board of School Commissioners of the Mobile County Public School System seeks to fill an open seat for District 4.

Qualifications - Persons eligible for the position shall:

(a) Reside in District 4. Residency shall have been established at least one year before

the applicant is appointed to fill the vacancy.

(b) Have obtained a high school diploma or its equivalent.

(c) Be a person of good moral character.

(d) Not be employed by the Mobile County Public School System Board of Education.

(e) Not be serving on the governing board of a private elementary or secondary

educational institution.

(f) Not be on the National Sex Offender Registry or the state sex offender registry.

(g) Not have been convicted of a felony.

The Board will accept applications until 12:00 p.m., Friday, November 1, 2013. The applicant must verify one year residency in District 4. All applications shall be submitted “Return Receipt Requested” or hand delivered and receipted.

It is the intent of the Board to conduct interviews on Wednesday, November 6, 2013. Should time constraints become an issue, it is anticipated that the Board will continue the interviews on Thursday, November 7, 2013, or thereafter.

The Board has tentatively set Wednesday, November 13, 2013 at 12:00 p.m., for a Special Called Board Meeting to address the nominations.

The District 4 seat is being vacated by Levon Manzie, who was elected to the Mobile City Council.

District 4 includes downtown Mobile and surrounding areas.
