Linda Duffis, an art teacher at Dunbar School for the Creative and Performing Arts, has been named Alabama's Middle School Art Teacher of the Year by the Alabama Art Educators Association.

We are pleased to announce that Baker High School was a recipient for a $5,000 beautification grant from the Lowe’s Charitable and Education Foundation. Stephanie Tashbin, the school’s Career Academy Specialist, applied for the grant to spruce up the Freshman Academy annex. Toolbox for Education grants are reserved for school improvement projects in order to improve the communities they serve. The school used the money for a new sidewalk and landscaping. Baker High School would like to thank Lowe’s Home Improvement and Toolbox for Education for their generosity and support! Baker High School serves about 2,400 students and is located on Airport Boulevard.

Clark-Shaw School of Math, Science and Technology and Phillips Preparatory School were recognized recently as Bicentennial Schools of Excellence for their students’ work honoring Alabama’s history. Clark-Shaw and Phillips are two of only 21 schools to receive this honor, which comes with a $5,000 grant.
