MCPSS opens four new stadiums, breaks ground on another

In May, Mobile County Public Schools officially opened four new stadiums at B.C. Rain, Davidson, LeFlore Magnet and Vigor high schools, facilities that will bring great pride to each school's students and community for years to come. Each stadium features seating for the home and visiting teams, an artificial turf field for football and soccer, a state-of-the-art sound and public address system, LED lighting, and dual concession stands and restrooms to accommodate both the home and visiting sides.

The stadiums were designed by McKee and Associates Architects, Inc. The contractor for the B.C. Rain, Davidson and Vigor stadiums was Ben M. Radcliff Contractors, Inc. The contractor for the LeFlore stadium was Youngblood-Barrett Construction & Engineering, LLC.

Ground was broken in June for another new stadium at Williamson High School.

The new stadiums are a source of pride for these schools and our community. They are a move toward equity as schools that have traditionally paid to rent stadiums will now be able to enjoy the convenience and revenue involved in hosting on-campus games and events. The stadiums will benefit all students, including football teams, marching bands, cheerleaders, soccer teams, track teams, JROTC members, and more. 

The schools would like to thank Superintendent Chresal D. Threadgill and the Mobile County Board of School Commissioners for investing in this project, along with the MCPSS Facilities Division, including Contract Administrator James Truly and Contract Specialist Robert Kimbrough, who worked on the B.C. Rain and Davidson projects, and Contract Administrator Mike Griswold and Contract Specialist John Seitz, who worked on the LeFlore and Vigor projects.
