Hutchens Students Take a Veteran to School

Hutchens Elementary School participated in the History Channnel's Take a Veteran to School Day.  The program encourages schools to give veterans a warm reception and appreciation by linking veterans with young people in the community.  Students at Hutchens honored military personnel by inviting them into their classrooms to share experiences.  Mrs. Neidhardt's class was visited by her father, Mr. Frank Nash, who fought in the war at nineteen...

Two New Commissioners Take The Oath Of Office

Friends, family members, supporters and many Mobile County Public School employees filled the Cypress Room at the Central Office Nov. 17th for the swearing in ceremony of our two new commissioners.Prichard Municipal Judge Jackie Jackson administered the oath of office to Dr. Reginald Crenshaw who replaces Mrs. Hazel Fournier as the Commissioner for District 3.  Dr. Crenshaw is an Administrator at Bishop State Community College.                                                        ...

B.C. Rain Teacher Joins Science Research Team

Ms. Caroline Coker, B.C. Rain Science teacher, will join a group of scientists aboard a research vessel for eight days during the month of November.  The crew is studying the Dead Zone (Louisiana Shelf).  The dead zone is an area of oxygen-depleted water off the Louisiana coast that lacks marine life.  The dead zone grows as the Mississippi and Atchafalaya rivers dump nutrients into the waters.  Ms. Coker will assist in taking and processing water samples.  She is excited...

USA Jag Students Show Support

The students from Eichold-Mertz & Indian Springs were treated to visits by University of South Alabama students.  The Lady Jags basketball team visited Mertz 4th graders to discuss the dangers of drugs & the importance of finishing school.  The USA cheerleaders cheered for Indian Springs students & gave out prizes during the 'Drug Free Raffle'.  Thank you to USA students for being positive role models.

WOW - 20,000 POUNDS OF FOOD

During the weeks of October 12-25, Mobile County Public Schools held food drives to benefit the hungry in our community.  Twenty five schools participated this year, proving once again that Kids Can Help which is the theme of the food drive. According to the Bay Area Food Bank, the food collected during National Food Bank week will help provide food to more than 550 organizations in Mobile County during Thanksgiving. Vigor Students Attend the Fifth Annual Statewide Youth Council Conference

 Two student leaders from Vigor High School were selected to represent the Mobile County Public School System at the Fifth Annual Statewide Youth Council Conference.
