High schoolers learn CPR and about health professions at camp

Standing in a semi-circle, about a dozen high schoolers from across Mobile County watch intensely as a teacher pushes her finger on the chest of a baby doll, showing them how to perform infant CPR. Thirty compressions, followed by two breaths. Repeat. Repeat. In another room at Faulkner Career-Technical Center, students practice a gentle version of the Heimlich maneuver, so they will know what to do if someone in choking. 51 students get back on academic track at Star Academy

Fifty-one students who were overage and under-credited graduated from MCPSS’s Star Academy today. The students completed a rigorous curriculum, earning all of their credits for eighth grade and most of their credits for ninth grade during one school year. Now that they are caught up academically, they will move on to their zoned high school in August as mid-year freshmen. MCPSS establishes Envision Virtual School for grades 6-12

MOBILE, Alabama -- The Mobile County school board passed a resolution today to establish Envision Virtual School. Students in grades six through 12 will be able to enroll in the online school, the first of its kind in the state.  Initially, Superintendent Martha Peek has said enrollment will be capped at 250 students. MCPSS to serve free lunches at no charge for ALL students

The Mobile County Public School System is pleased to announce that ALL students will be able to eat healthy lunches at no charge during the 2014-15 school year. The school system has qualified for the Community Eligibility Provision of the USDA, which allows school systems with 75 percent of students qualifying for free or reduced-price lunches to offer meals to all students at no charge. “This is an awesome program because more of our students will have access to meals,” said Suzanne...

Dragon Boat Festival raises money for alternative program at Scarborough

Update: The Dragon Boat Festival raised $95,000. Clark-Shaw won the Academic Division and raced in the finals as one of the Top 12 teams. This weekend, three teams from Mobile County Public Schools will paddle Dragon Boats for a good cause. Super Food Express: Mobile County feeding hungry children via school bus

Mobile County Public Schools officials today revealed the new Super Food Express, a bus that will deliver free food to hungry children this summer. Healthy meals will be delivered to children ages 18 an under on Mondays through Thursdays, June 9 through July 31. The routes will be announced soon on mcpss.com and the Mobile County Public Schools’ Facebook page. Rising freshmen learn job skills through Vital Link

11 students graduating from Project SEARCH, finding jobs

Eleven students with disabilities are graduating from a life-changing program tonight. These graduates have spent the past school year interning at Mobile Infirmary in a unique partnership known as Project Search. The students rotated in jobs at the hospital ranging from clerical to janitorial, from food service to transporting medical equipment.
