Reginald A. Crenshaw, Ph.D. District 3 Commissioner, Reginald A. Crenshaw, Sr. is a "proud" 1974 graduate of Mattie T. Blount High School. While attending Blount, Crenshaw served as president of the Student Council and was captain of the baseball and football teams his senior year. Crenshaw credits the faculty, staff, and coaches for many of his educational and professional accomplishments. After graduating from Blount with academic honors, Crenshaw enrolled in Morehouse College in Atlanta, Georgia and graduated in1978 with a Bachelor's Degree in Economics. At Morehouse, Crenshaw was assigned tutoring duties in mathematics and statistics. Through these duties, he had the pleasure of developing friendships with Martin Luther King, III, who visited Mobile to speak at the 1998 MLK Celebration hosted by Bishop State Community College. Classmates, two time Olympic gold medalist Edwin Moses and film producer/actor Spike Lee are just two of the many successful Morehouse men that Crenshaw shared academic and athletic friendships. While at Morehouse, he pledged Alpha Rho Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Incorporated and is the Past President of the Mobile Alumni Chapter, Beta Omicron Lambda, is formerly the Area 4 District Director for the Alabama State District and was recently appointed by the fraternity's national president to the National Leadership Development Committee. After graduating from Morehouse, Crenshaw returned to Prichard and taught one year of mathematics at his beloved Blount High School. At the age of 21, Crenshaw was elected to a seat on the Prichard City Council. His election to that seat made him one of the youngest elected officials in the United States for a City the size of Prichard, Alabama. While on the Council for eight years, he served as the Council President/Mayor Pro Tem. Crenshaw joined the staff at Bishop State Community College as the Coordinator of Institutional Research and he currently serves as the Director of Title III Programs and adjunct instructor for Business Statistics. In addition to these duties, he was recently appointed Director of the Office of Institutional Research and Development. While employed at Bishop State for more than 31 years, he has earned a Master's Degree in Public Administration from the University of South Alabama and completed all course work towards a Master's Degree in General Counseling, from Alabama State University and earned a Ph.D. in Higher Education Administration from the University of Southern Mississippi. After obtaining his Ph.D., Crenshaw was employed by Alabama State University as an Adjunct Instructor teaching courses in Educational Statistics, Educational Research and several other Master Degree/Ed.S. courses offered at the Mobile Campus of Alabama State University. His awards and honors are too numerous to name. His commitment to community service, youth development, and love for all mankind is quite apparent in his dedication to serving others, rather than being served. Crenshaw is an active member of the Highpoint Baptist Church, and is the founder and Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Highpoint Educational and Community Enrichment Foundation Board, a non-profit 501-C3 church-based entity. Crenshaw has three children Dante, Reginald, Jr., and Whitney Crenshaw. Having previously been a single parent with custodial responsibility of Whitney and Reginald, Jr., Crenshaw believes that parenting is a responsibility that either parent must be prepared to assume at any given time and under any given set of circumstances. In November 2, 2009, Crenshaw was elected to a six-year term on the Mobile County School Board.
