The First Lady Writes a Letter to Burroughs Students

Posted by Comm. Dept. in Schools  |  Comments (7)

Mrs. Elise Barnes and her first grade class at Burroughs Elementary were excited when they received a letter and pictures from First Lady, Michelle Obama.  The students wrote to the President's children, Sasha and Malia during Black History Month.  The students inquired about life in their new home, what it is like living in the White House and even about the type of dog they wanted at the time.  Mrs. Obama responded to the students with a letter and pictures of her and President Obama.  In her letter she spoke words of inspiration and encouraged the students to do their best.

Dear Students of Ms. Barnes:

Thank you for writing me in the White House!  Your letters are so wonderful and I appreciate the effort each one of you put into your note.  As I say to my daughters, it's important to always do your best.

Many of you asked about Malia and Sasha, and I want you to know that they really enjoy living in the White House and discovering the history that surrounds them in our new home.  But it's not just our house - it's yours too!  The White House is a place that all Americans should treasure and enjoy.  You can learn more about it at
www.whitehouse.gov or take a look through the rooms at www.whitehousehistory.org.

So keep up the good work, and know that everything you need to accomplish your dreams is inside of you.  With a lot of hard work, you can do anything!

                                                                        Sincerely,

                                                                        Michelle Obama
