The Baker High School newspaper staff competed in the USA/ Press Register South Alabama Newspaper Contest April 1, 2009 and received 1st place for Best Overall Newspaper. Hornet Herald staff members also received the following awards: Zach Butler, 3rd place Best Layout; Brandy Freeman, 3rd place Best Sports Article; Christian Noojin, 3rd place Best Editorial; Rachael Juck, 2nd place Best Photograph; Hillary McCoy, 3rd place Best Photograph.
