“I know about Airbus," an E.R. Dickson kindergarten student excitedly stated, “they make airplanes!” The world-leading aircraft manufacturer, the kindergarten class also found out, made a coloring book.
To mark the anniversary of Airbus groundbreaking event that took place on April 8, 2013, Airbus authored a new coloring book about its A320 Family assembly line. The assembly line is being constructed at the Mobile Aeroplex at Brookley, in Mobile. In the book, entitled "Ready for Takeoff", the story of the Airbus A320 aircraft and its assembly is told through the eyes of a dog named Rivet, who lives with a local Mobile family. The purpose of creating the coloring book is to engage Mobile County Public School children in Aerospace industry by distributing copies to kindergarten and first grade classes throughout the system.
"This project represents the future of Mobile and the Gulf Coast-what better way to celebrate the anniversary of our groundbreaking than sharing the Airbus story with local children. They will be able to color the characters and aircraft depicted in the book along with other activities such as a word-find, a maze, and desinging their own A320, " said Michelle Hurdle, Director of Economic and Community Development, at Airbus Americas, Inc. The children at E.R. Dickson were thrilled to have the actual dog from the book, Rivet, visit their class. Hurdle read the book to a class and answered questions. "Partnerships with the community is an important goal in our schools," states Ms. Katryna Ellis, "teachers and students appreciate the support and encouragement from business leaders such as Airbus."
