PACE Students among Semi-Finalists in 2013 Writing Contest

Posted by Comm. Dept. in General  |  Comments (3)

Congratulations to Aleja Nettles, a 5th grade student at George Hall Elementary, and Jakeria Brown, a 5th grade student at Maryvale Elementary. They are among the semi-finalists at the state level in the Letters About Literature essay contest. Their letters were entered into the Level 1 category which included students in Grades 4-6 throughout Alabama. The students are in the PACE class of Ms. Heather Watson.

The contest involved students writing a persuasive letter to an author whose book changed their view of themselves or the world around them.

When asked why she chose The English Roses: Good Bye Grace, by Madonna, Aleja responded, "It helped me to understand how Grace felt when she moved away and just in case I have to move (which I hope I don't) or my mom begins to act strange, I'll know why.”

Jakeria chose her book, Diary Of A Wimpy Kid, by Jeff Kinney because "it gave me a new perspective about what middle school will be like when I go next year."
