Ms. Christy Melton, the school counselor at Dawes Intermediate organizes a Character of Excellence breakfast each month to honor students who were selected by their teachers for excellent character traits.
Parents along with grandparents are invited to celebrate with their kids. A special guest from the community is invited to talk to the students about the importance of having good character. Dr. Peggy Nikolakis was the event's guest speaker and she talked about the importance of showing Respect. Dr. Foster, School Board Commissioner, shared a special poem that he wrote many years ago and discussed how he was responsible for the entire school when he was a principal and now holds a greater responsibility as a school board member.
