Marti Harding, owner of Marti's Fine Apparel, Donna Abercrombie, manager of Bay Bank and Sharon Denmark, owner of Island Rainbow, came together to create a superb finance learning experience for the second grade students in Camille McGuire's class at Dauphin Island. First, the students walked to Marti's Shop-complete with their own police escorts. After viewing Marti's shop, the students walked to Island Rainbow where Donna Abercrombie presented them with blue, Bay Bank, Piggy Banks. Her goal is to motivate the students to save money this summer and start a savings account in the fall. Island Rainbow's Sharon Denmark and her staff prepared their famous pizza for the students. Cynthia McKean, Marti's assistant, prepared a fruit salad that was "Out of this World"! Topping off the lunch was a choice of chocolate or vanilla ice cream in sugar cones. Marti Harding, and all involved wanted to show support for Dauphin Island Elementary school and the student's accomplishments this year. Mrs. McGuire's second grade students have read 2,412 books, with an average on 95.3% on comprehension quizzes.
