This semester McDavid Jones teachers are encouraging students to come to school everyday with no tardies or early dismissals. Every Friday the school holds a HAT DAY. Students who come to school everyday may wear any hat as long it is appropriate for school.
Students are encouraged to express themselves by the hats they wear, and are very creative. Hat Day is working-the school's attendance rate is above 95%!

It is not so much the kids as it is the parents. Children should be encouraged each day to want to do better. Hat day or Jean day is a way to encourage them. That is the job of the teachers especially when the parents don't do it or can't do it. I understand life is hard but be mindful that these students are still KIDS. Each and everyone of them is somebody's baby and I would hate to know that my own child is not encouraged when I can't do it!
Hats, blue jeans or nothing at all, it is a child's job to go to school. Will he/she not want to go to his job one day because he can't wear what he wants? Unfortunately this is a lesson learned early in life. Children should go to school and be grateful the school is doing something fun to encourage it.
I think bluejean day was a much greater reward. My son does not care at all for hat day, so now getting him up in the morning has gone back to being a challenge. Go back to blue jean Friday with better rules and guidelines. Really reward them so they don't have to wear that same uniform EVERY single day.
