Westlawn Students Take the Pledge

Posted by Comm. Dept. in Schools  |  Comments (3)

There is excitement in the air at Westlawn Elementary.  Every girl at Westlawn Elementary School ages five and up have taken the pledge and are now registered Girl Scouts!

Westlawn K5-5th grade Girl Scouts are so excited to have so many wonderful and dedicated volunteers who have choosen to take time out of their busy schedules to bring "Twist me and turn me and show me the elf, I looked in the mirror and saw, MYSELF".

Mrs. Cheryl Pierce, Membership Director for Girl Scouts of South Alabama has been a key factor in bridging the gap between school and community partnerships. Thanks to a grant Westlawn is fortunate to have  in-house Girl Scout troop meetings.

Each month, Mrs. Pierce comes to Westlawn and conducts an in-house Girl Scout meeting for all grades during their P.E. time. Fourth and fifth grades meet twice a month on Friday and K-3rd meet monthly.

Currently, there are two afterschool Girl Scout Troops that meet twice monthly on Wednesday afternoons from 3:30 -4:30 pm. Ms. Twandria Rogers is the 2nd/3rd grade Brownie troop leader and Ms. Courtney Phillips is the K-1st Grade Daisy troop leader.

The girls are actively ingaged in fun-learning activities which range from health & safety tips to arts & crafts and so much more.

Some of the 5th grade girls presented Christmas cards and a token of appreciation to Mrs. Pierce with on behalf of the Westlawn Girl Scouts, faculty and staff.

What a wonderful opportunity!  The Girl Scout organization has so much to offer.  I am proud of my school system for allowing this to take place.  From one old Girl Scout, congratulations.  Della White
