WHAT: The 2010 Young Authors' Conference and Round Table. This program gives young writers in grades 3-8 an opportunity to interact with an author and to participate in motivating writing activities. Each year over 200 students submit writing for the Young Authors' Anthology and over 250 students, teachers, and family members participate in the Conference. The deadline for submitting registrations and writing is January 22.

Young Authors' Round Table for Students in Grades 6-8 Saturday, February 27, 2010 2:00 - 3:30 WHERE: West Regional Branch Library
ABOUT: On February 27, registration will begin at 8:30 for the YAC and at 2:00 for the Round Table. At that time, students will also be able to sign anthologies or purchase books for Ms. Smalls to sign. During the Young Authors' Conference, students will have the opportunity to hear a presentation by Ms. Smalls. Following her presentation to the whole group, the Young Authors' Conference will have small group sessions where students will be involved in a writing activity led by local authors and educators. Then each group will present to the whole Conference. We hope to have 3rd-5th grade students from throughout Mobile County at the 2010 Young Authors' Conference. The Round Table will give 6th-8th grade students time to talk about writing and share ideas, as well as hear Ms. Small's presentation. We will have refreshments at both programs.
Each student who registers (3-8) will receive a copy of the Young Authors' Anthology. Registration and anthology will cost only $6!!! Additional anthologies will be $10. The anthologies contain every story, essay, and poem that was submitted with the registration fee. Each child may submit one example of their writing. Teachers may have students edit stories from the WOW boxes (Mobile Public Schools), or from other writing done at home or school.
