2010 Outstanding Teachers of MCPSS

Congratulations to Angela Howie, a fifth-grade teacher at Booth Elementary, David Lawrence, a language arts teacher at Causey Middle, and Emily Prine, a geometry teacher at Theodore High School.  Each were named The Mobile Area Education Foundation's (MAEF) 2010 Elementary, Middle and High School Outstanding Teachers! Superintendent, Dr. Roy Nichols, and School Board President, Mr. Bill Meredith, were on hand with MAEF representatives to surprise each teacher at his/her school...

Bryant Students Help Serve the Community

In April, students from Bryant High school and the community helped the Youth Activist Coalition clean abandoned graves at Oddfellows Cemetery in Irvington.  The students worked for three hours raking and removing debris from several graves.  Students removed 46 bags of leaves and other debris.

Local Filmmakers Inspire Burns Students

Newly formed group, SAFA, allows students to see their work on the big screenBefore Christmas break last year, Renae Brewer Cox, a seventh grade teacher at Burns Middle School, collaborated with local filmmakers, Abby Long and Margaret Broach, to form the Student and Filmmaker Alliance (SAFA) in order to inspire her students to write. Clark Shaw Students make National Rankings

In March of this year a select group of  Clark-Shaw Magnet students who were  enrolled in French I took the National French Exam  Thousands of students nationwide took this exam sponsored by the American Association of Teachers of French.  Of the 17 Clark-Shaw who took the exam, three placed within the top ten percent at the state level and two placed within the top ten percent at the national level.  Eighth grader Kristen White placed 6th at the national level in category...
